Kara has decided that she wants to communicate. Not only does she sign "all done," she says, "Da Da", "Hi", "Daisy", "Turtle", "Ahh Nah Nah" that we are assuming is Aunt Nicole and finally--as 0f Monday up at the cabin--"MA, MA"!!! Oh, it is music to my ears. It took her 10 months but it is so sweet. She laughs so hard at the strangest things and now gets this squinty eyed look that we call "The Stink Eye." It almost looks like a glare. She also gets so intense that she just stands there and quivers while her face turns almost purple! We aren't sure what the purpose or meaning of it is yet. Gas? Energy? Anger? Frustration?
She will be getting her 4th haircut tomorrow. She has lost a half a pound since she is so mobile now. She is so close to walking and has great balance--she even goes up the stairs all by herself. She is eating much more solid food now--she loves carrots and sweet potatoes and all fruits. Forgive me if I repeat this kind of stuff on the blog. I have a daily journal of her first year and I don't remember what I write in there or on here.
This video was taken last week. She is pretty quiet so you may have to turn your volume way up.
This past weekend Aaron had a four day weekend, so after the UCLA game on Saturday we went up to my parents' cabin in the mountains. We are babysitting my mom's dog so even Ellie got to bring a friend. Aunt Nicole came too. Aaron spent the whole weekend grading essays--yuck. I spent a lot of it sleeping; I think I may be fighting something.

Ok, so I know that I am always the first one to post a comment is seems, but I have my routine of checking your blog when I get home from work every night and this one just melted my heart. She sounds so amazingly beautiful. I LOVE the pictures. Congrats on her finally saying mama...isn't it just the sweetest sound in the entire world?!
Kara is definitely growing and changing. She is so very funny. The stink eye is too funny for words. Kara and I also have something in common.... I lost half a pound too. :) Yippee for you Ma Ma. She is a precious little thing indeed and I love to spend time with all of you.
Amazing blog! I love the serenity of the first picture, it just seems to sum up everything that was being searched for in the beginning. Thank you is all I can say. And as for the video, that is AWESOME! Such an amazing job of "momma and dada" she's making huge strides every blog! Oh, and "turta" is actually the animal which represents one of MY Tribes, so much love!
